Alain Bonnefoit
France
Born in Montmartre in 1937, Bonnefoit is internationally acclaimed for his sensuous and elegant paintings of the female nude. He began his studies at the École des Arts Appliqués and the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, later continuing in Brussels with a focus on engraving and sculpture. In 1962, he returned to Paris to study under renowned sculptor Antoniucci Volti, whose influence led Bonnefoit to devote himself fully to drawing and painting the female form.
A master of Sumi-e, the East Asian art of ink and wash painting, Bonnefoit brings a rare fluidity and expressive precision to his work. His distinctive style spans oils, watercolours, crayon, ink, and pencil, and is marked by sinuous line and refined sensuality.
Bonnefoit has held major retrospectives at the Marino Marini Museum in Florence, as well as museums in Korea and Germany. His works are included in collections of the French Government, the City of Paris, and international museums worldwide. In 2012, he received the prestigious Puvis de Chavannes Award. Bonnefoit is also EUREKA’s lifelong art consultant.
